Dear Parents / Carers
Further information about school closures
Firstly, thank you for your patience and understanding at this very difficult time. We have spent a considerable amount of time over the last two days, putting arrangements in place following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Wednesday to close all schools, except for providing childcare for Key Workers and those from vulnerable groups.
Last night we asked you to complete a survey if you believed that a member of your family was a Key Worker, we then followed that up with telephone calls today. This has now given us a clear picture of the number of children to expect and plan for from Monday along with making the correct staffing provision. It is important to note that if you have not received a telephone call today, confirming that your child will be attending school from Monday, then we will not be expecting to see them again until schools re-open.
Whether your child is in school next week or not, it is worth bearing in mind the most recent advice from government which is as follows:
“ the most recent scientific advice on how to further limit the spread of COVID-19 is clear. If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading.
That is why the government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.”
The schools are being closed for a reason. This virus is very infectious and the less of us together in school the better. We will be of no use to any one of you, if we have to close the school altogether because of staff catching the virus.
We understand that the prospect of having your children at home full time might be challenging but we cannot justify the health of our staff to provide care for children whose parents are / can work from home. If there is someone at home your children must stay at home with them. The number of children in school needs to be kept to an absolute minimum to avoid the spread of the virus.
At this moment in time it is unclear when the school will re-open for all pupils. We will of course keep you updated as and when we have more news to share via the usual channels of communication, the website and twitter.
Lastly, I hope all of you remain safe and well and virus free.
